Coprohníjar, pioneer in integrated fight

Located in the population of San Isidro (Níjar), zone of tomato, Coprohníjar is born of the idea of 37 growers of the zone in 1986. However, the commercialization starts in the following year. «In the beginning, we only had a store of 1,500 square meters that allowed us to sell 3,000 tons, distributed between tomato and melon», explains Antonio García, president of Coprohníjar.

The evolution is well-known. The company Coprohníjar closed the last exercise with a commercialization of more than 44,000 tons, which almost meant an increase of a 5 per cent with respect to the previous exercise.

The specialization in the lines of product and the strategy of certification of the production are the keys to understand the way of work of a company that has been growing gradually since the year 2000 and that has had in the varieties of cherry a considerable increase.

At the present time, Coprohníjar is one of the European references in the commerce of the cherry tomato. Thanks to this product, Coprohníjar has been keeping the activity for 3 years during the 12 months.

The agreements that it has with producers of the interior of Almería (Abla, Lucainena de las Torres, Uleila del Campo, Tahal etc…) and the acquisitions that makes inside Granada (Baza, Caniles, Játar and the zone of the dam of Bermejales), allow this conjuncture. However, it is also thinking about the idea to work during the 12 months with other kinds of tomato.

Coprohníjar is pioneer in the segment of the vegetables companies, betting on the integrated fight for its crops. The company has got 7 technicians at the moment for integrated fight who give service to 160 members and 80 collaborators.

Also, the company has got the protocols of quality and certifications (Aenor, ISO 9001, Integrated Production, EurepGap, Nature Choice, BRC, IFS and Ecological Agriculture) and where the 95 per cent of their production is with protocols of integrated fight.
